WAYS TO VOLUNTEER
VOLUNTEER AT CRISTO REY JESUIT
Volunteers have a special place at Cristo Rey Jesuit. Whether you want to work one-on-one with students or participate on a committee to lend your professional experience, we encourage you to get involved! Opportunities include:
- Coach a sports team
- Mentor a student (see below)
- Tutor students
- Drive students to/from work sites (see below)
- Lead a club or student activity
- Participate on an event committee
Professional Mentoring
Professional mentors are integral to Cristo Rey Jesuit’s Corporate Work Study Program. Professional mentors are a valuable resource to our students to help them fully embrace their CWSP experience. Mentors offer personalized, one-on-one weekly motivation and advice to propel students to take initiative and be more proactive at work and in school. Mentors guide students through a program modeled on Sean Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and help students understand how to incorporate these lessons into their work ethic, as well as other areas of their lives.
Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans and assign homework to students (based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens)
- Meet with Corporate Work Study Staff to discuss student progress and behavior
- Keep a record of student meetings, and email Corporate Work Study Staff with updates about students each week
Time Commitment
Professional mentors are needed for a weekly one-hour meeting for 8-10 weeks during the student’s advisory period at school.
Qualifications & Skills
- Complete a training session through Archdiocese of Milwaukee
- Must be patient, self-motivated and good with teenagers
- Must have professional experience and skills
Van Drivers
Responsibilities
- Drive the students between school and work placements
- Ensure a welcoming, orderly, appropriate and professional van environment
- Interact with the students, discuss work days and what they did and learned
Time Commitment
This is a part-time position, Monday-Friday, 7:30-9:30am and 2:30-4pm. We gladly accept volunteers who are only available one or two days a week OR only available in the morning or afternoon.
Qualifications & Skills
- Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license with no serious violations (must be insurable with a good driving record)
- Comply with all federal, state and local driving laws
- Interpersonal skills to relate to students, staff, administration, parents, corporate partners and the community
- Reliability and sound judgement
- Commitment to the mission and values of Cristo Rey Jesuit
- Complete a training session through Archdiocese of Milwaukee
