Draft Day

Each year, our Corporate Work Study Program kicks off with Draft Day. The high-energy event announces the placement of Cristo Rey Jesuit students with corporate partners from around the greater Milwaukee area for the coming academic year. In the style of a professional sports draft, students are called on stage where they are greeted by their new corporate work partners and presented with company “swag.”

The students anticipate Draft Day with excitement according to Cristo Rey Jesuit student Lizbeth. “It’s a day full of emotion, especially because we know where we are going to work for the first time.” Since the school’s first Draft Day in 2015, the number of corporate partners involved in the program has grown from 23 to more than 60. Each company hires a team of students who alternate working 8-hour days to fulfill the responsibilities of one full-time position. The school’s academic schedule is arranged so students are able to balance 5 full work days each month with the demands of a college preparatory curriculum. Over the years, additional companies have joined the program while others have added more positions to match the growth of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.

Cristo Rey Jesuit High School will hold its third annual Draft Day on August 15 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, featuring a keynote presentation by Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin. “We appreciate the support of Mr. Feigin and the Milwaukee Bucks for our Draft Day event. It really sets a positive tone for our students for the entire school year,” said Joe Mazza, Cristo Rey Jesuit Corporate Work Study Program Director.
