Celebrating Seniors: Graduation Home Deliveries

Posted June 11, 2020

During the first week of June, 21 staff and faculty members teamed up to hand-deliver graduation gifts, yard signs, caps, and gowns to 94 seniors. Even in this time of social distancing, there’s always a way to find connections. This time it was through hand-delivered mementos and gifts to brighten everyone’s day.

Our staff and faculty traveled in groups of two to three people all around Milwaukee to ensure every student was celebrated. Each staff and faculty member team visited student homes where they received:

  • Cap and gown. Students can now wear their cap and gown  now for class pictures while graduation ceremony scenario planning is underway.
  • A letter from the Cristo Rey staff to seniors. Each Senior received at least two personalized letters of congratulations from Cristo Rey staff and faculty. The CRJ Graduation Committee demonstrated the values of true trailblazers–continuing to innovate and transform to find connections.
  • Cristo Rey Jesuit High School Class of 2020 yard sign. Once proudly displayed in their yards, neighbors and friends are able to congratulate and celebrate accomplishments and achievements!
  • Ignatius keychain and a photo gift. A symbol of Jesuit education to be carried with seniors as they leave high school and embark on their higher education journey.

To ensure safe delivery, staff and faculty members practiced recommended social distancing guidelines. Everyone wore face masks and frequently used hand sanitizer, and they dropped off gifts off near doors. When possible, staff and faculty members congratulated students and took plenty of pictures.

Another traditional rite of passage is the Senior Prom. Despite not having an in person event, the seniors at Cristo Rey Jesuit voted for their 2020 Prom Court! Watch this two-minute video to see the 2020 prom court and the crowning of the prom king and queen.

Throughout the pandemic, our community finds innovative ways to connect while maintaining safe social distancing guidelines. Creative problem-solving is the starting line on the pathway to transformation. We know the class of 2020 has a bright future ahead and we can’t wait to recognize them for their achievements during a graduation ceremony later this summer!
