Director of Corporate Work Study Program
Joe Mazza, Director of Corporate Work Study Program, connects the Cristo Rey mission to Milwaukee’s corporate world. The Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) is a unique and integral part of the Cristo Rey model; students work in corporate settings – banks, law firms, health care providers, real estate firms, and so on – and gain practical, invaluable, real-world experience. The CWSP is a staffing agency whose employees are the students. Therefore, the CWSP handles all paperwork, on-boarding, transportation to and from work, taxes, and insurance for its employees. There is a balance that needs to be found between managing the daily operational side of the running business and growing the client base to fill the annually-expanding number of employees. This balance is achieved through the efforts of Joe and his staff, which also must grow each year to accommodate the increasing tasks of the program.
Joe’s work experience has been entrepreneurial in spirit; in the years after graduating high school he went into golf course construction and assisted in building Ironwood Golf Course in Sussex, WI. After graduating from Marquette University, Joe went into restaurant management and ultimately oversaw the opening of two restaurants: North Star American Bistros in Shorewood and Brookfield. His career then took him into sales, and for several years, Joe sold fine wine to Milwaukee-area restaurants, hotels, and country clubs. It was this work experience and the skills developed over nearly two decades that led Joe to Cristo Rey Jesuit. Ultimately, and without doubt, it was the undeniable call to serve in this capacity that inspired him to join Cristo Rey Jesuit’s mission.
Joe and his wife, Abby, live in Waukesha, WI.
